GULFSTREAM 200® FILES FOR TWO NEW CITY-PAIR RECORDS
Gulfstream Seeks NAA Recognition of New World-Record Flights
Savannah, GA, April 4, 2002 - Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has filed applications for an additional two new world-speed records with the FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale) for nonstop flights by its Gulfstream 200 super mid-size business jet aircraft.
On Sunday, March 31, 2002, while en route to FIDAE 2002, the international air show being held in Chile, the Gulfstream 200 completed the following flights:
"This is another example of the outstanding performance of the Gulfstream 200, which is the true market leader in the super mid-size category," said Joe Walker, senior vice president, worldwide sales, Gulfstream Aerospace. "Earlier this year, on its way to Asian Aerospace 2002 in Singapore, a Gulfstream 200 established two new city-pair world speed records on trips from Fort Worth to Anchorage and then Anchorage to Sapporo," he added.
While at Asian Aerospace, Gulfstream announced that China's Hainan Airlines had ordered three Gulfstream 200s, the first Gulfstream business jets to be sold in China. They will be operated out of Beijing by Hainan subsidiary Deer Jet, a charter operator.
"The balanced performance of this super mid-size aircraft ensures flights from Santiago to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and from Santiago to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, are nonstop," continued Mr. Walker.
Captain Paulo Jancitsky, pilot and co-Captain Kevin Bixler, flew the record-breaking flights.
Data on each of the two legs has been submitted to the National Aeronautic Association, the U.S. representative of the FAI, for review. Gulfstream has filed for city-pairs records in weight class C-1H.
The Gulfstream 200 has the largest cabin volume in the super mid-size business jet category and is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306A engines, each rated at 6,040 pounds. The Gulfstream has a range of 3,600 nautical miles and has a normal cruise speed of Mach 0.80. In a typical outfitting, the Gulfstream 200 can carry from eight to ten passengers.
