GULFSTREAM G450 SETS SPEED RECORD BETWEEN WASHINGTON D.C. AND LUTON, ENGLAND
SAVANNAH, Ga., Nov. 10, 2005 -- The large-cabin, long-range Gulfstream G450 business jet recently established a new intercontinental city-pair speed record, flying 3,290 nautical miles from Washington, D.C., to Luton, England, in just 6 hours and 12 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.85. With a 30-knot average tailwind en route, the aircraft landed with 4,000 pounds of fuel remaining.
The G450 took off from Dulles Airport, just outside Washington, D.C., on the morning of Oct. 28, and flew 3,290 nautical miles, landing 6 hours and 12 minutes later at London-Luton Airport. Piloting the G450 was David Smith, G550/G450 international captain, while Bud Ball, senior production test pilot, served as copilot. In addition to flight attendant Kitty Ramage, six passengers were onboard the flight.
Gulfstream Aerospace is displaying the G450 at this year’s National Business Aviation Association’s annual meeting and convention being held in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 9, 10, and 11.
Gulfstream has submitted an application to the National Aeronautic Association to confirm the new city-pair record.
The Gulfstream G450 business jet took its first flight April 30, 2003, nearly six months before it was first introduced to the public on Oct. 6, 2003. Less than a year later on Aug. 12, 2004, the FAA issued the type certificate for the G450. On Nov. 19, 2004, the European Aviation Safety Agency validated the FAA certification and on May 9, 2005, Gulfstream delivered its first G450 to a customer.

The G450 features the exclusive PlaneView® cockpit, which includes four large flight displays and Honeywell’s Primus Epic avionics and Visual Guidance System (VGS). Also, the G450 features as standard equipment the award-winning Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System (EVS). Developed to improve safety of flight by enhancing pilot situational awareness while reducing pilot workload, the Gulfstream EVS is the first system of its type certified by the FAA.
The G450 cabin, which comes fully appointed, provides seating for up to 19 passengers. G450 passengers, especially those on long intercontinental flights, will appreciate the relaxing cabin atmosphere with three temperature zones, ample light streaming through 12 heated signature oval windows, 100 percent fresh air and a cabin altitude of 6,000 feet. G450 customers also can choose among a variety of cabin layouts, each designed to meet different types of travel needs.
The G450 and its sister ships - the G550, G500 and G350 - all share numerous aircraft systems as well as the same pilot type rating.
