A business jet with true intercontinental range deserves a world-class flight deck. That's one of the reasons Gulfstream selected the PlaneView® cockpit for the Gulfstream G500® large-cabin, ultra-long-range aircraft. The PlaneView cockpit is, after all, the most advanced flight deck in commercial aviation.
Gulfstream's unique PlaneView cockpit features Honeywell's next-generation Primus Epic® integrated avionics suite with its distinct architecture and display system. It presents critical flight data and systems information on four 14-inch (36 cm) liquid crystal displays in a landscape format that's easy for pilots to comprehend.
Pilots can easily access flight information on navigation, communications and aircraft-system status by using Gulfstream's signature Cursor Control Device (CCD). The CCD allows pilots to interact with the information displayed on the LCD screens for point-and-click flight planning, navigation and radio tuning.
Many operators select the optional Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System II™ and Synthetic Vision Primary Flight Display to complement the advanced technological capabilities of the PlaneView cockpit. By projecting an infrared, real-world image on the Head-Up Display, EVS II enables the pilot to see through nighttime darkness, fog and murky weather to distinguish runway markings, taxiways and the surrounding landscape. Not only does EVS improve visibility markedly, but it also provides the flight crew with a vastly improved level of situational awareness. SV-PFD goes one step further and displays real time terrain imagery on the pilots display to improve situational awareness in zero visibility conditions.
One extraordinary safety feature found on the G500 is the Automatic Emergency Descent Mode (AEDM), a component of the Flight Management System (FMS). In the unlikely event that the flight crew is incapacitated due to depressurization, the AEDM will direct the G500 to turn, descend to a safe altitude of 15,000 feet (4,572 m), and reduce its speed to 250 knots. This maneuver will allow the flight crew to regain consciousness and assume control of the aircraft.
The Gulfstream G500 is simply one more example of excellence in aviation engineering.
